Deliver Training

Objectives

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Understand the different methods by which humans learn.
  • Address trainees with confidence during a training session.
  • Prepare for training sessions.
  • Explain difficult concepts in an easy way.
  • Take control during a training session.
  • Handle difficult trainees.
  • Motivate trainees.
  • Make a training fun.
  • Enjoy delivering training.
  • Deal with a wide array of trainee questions.

Content

This training course uses the child as a model, metaphor and source of inspiration for discovering and explaining effective methods by which adults can learn.

Contents

  • Presentation skills
  • Dealing with tough students
  • The first session in a training course
  • The last session in a training course
  • Delivering your first training session ever
  • Answering student questions
  • How to take control of the classroom (preventing students from taking control)

Videos

  • Karate Kid 1 - Training him on skills through indirect means then showing him how he had learnt later on.

Activities

  • Questionnaire to measure each trainee's potential as a successful trainer.
  • Ask participants to select something they have managed to learn as children or as adults and then write down how they have learnt it. They then start telling the rest of the class hey they learnt that thing. Facilitator starts writing down learning methods on flip chart, adding new ones as each participants relates his story about learning something. [learning methods]
  • Let them imagine they are trainees attending a specific course. What did they like, what have they not liked. Let them write that down.
  • Ask participants to teach something or explain a concept. Ask others to observe and take notes on what principles has the speaker followed, what principles has he broken and how can the teaching be improved. (Principles outlined in the Effective Training section.)

Situations

  • What to do when a student asks you a question you do not know the answer for?
  • Provide a situation and give different methods by which different trainers have dealt with it. Each participant selects the method he believes is best and says why he selected it. Situations are to be extracted from Training Situations.

Sequence

  • Ask trainees: "How do children learn". Jot down their answers on a flip chart sheet.

Points

  • Tell them about your mistakes, what mistakes have you been doing as a trainer in the past.
  • Easy does it. For Dummies series is the most popular.

Design Training Materials

Objectives

By the end of this course you will be able to:
  • Conduct training needs analysis.
  • Determine training objectives.
  • Create supporting activities.
  • Create pre-assessment questions.

Anyone Can Train

Anyone can become a trainer if trained to do so.

Vision

Many people have lots of deep knowledge and experience trapped into them while at the same time much more people are in need of such knowledge and experience and their lives could be greatly enhanced if they had easy access to such knowledge and experience.

Mission

Our mission is to unleash the trapped knowledge and experience that many people have by:

  • training those people on how to become effective trainers
  • providing them with an avenue through which they can deliver training to the masses in the fields of their expertise

The idea developed from courses for scanners.

Skills

We aim at building the following set of skills in the wold-be trainers:

  • Speaking in front of an audience with confidence.
  • Managing student questions.
  • Preparing training materials.

How

This training program gets the would-be trainers ready for becoming trainers by providing a solid theoretical background and how humans learn followed by a thorough practical workshop-style module to practice their skills as trainers and gain more confidence in becoming trainers.

Theory

Theory of learning including:

  • Learning methods (how humans learn inspired by children learning methods).
  • Learning spiral.
  • Focus on training as a learning method.

Practice

Allow trainee trainersrs to practice their skills as trainers through:

  • Give each trainee trainer an assignment to prepare and deliver a 15-minute presentation about a field he or she is experienced in. The presentation must be informative, engaging, easy to understand, enjoyable and memorable.

Modules

  • Sources of knowledge
  • How children learn
    • observation (as the master of all learning methods. (the crow as the first teacher)).
  • Why we need training (the function of training and how it fits in the various learning methods).
  • Building student confidence
  • Presentation skills for trainers
    • preparing for a training session (+ visualization)
  • Explaining new concepts (different methods of).
  • Classroom management
    • managing difficult students
  • Preparing training materials
    • Googling with the right keywords (how to come up with effective keywords / keyword selection)
    • creating a presentation
    • designing workshop activities
  • Practice using teaching aids (flip chart, whiteboard, video projector)
  • Quality control (measuring the quality of the training)
  • Project (preparing training materials + delivering a training session)

Activities

  • Showing videos of good and bad examples of delivering training.
  • Having participants role play good and bad trainer and student scenarios.
  • Remember a training course you have attended and liked a lot. Draw a picture of it.
  • Talk about your own mistakes in delivering training (laughing at a clueless learner ... related the story).
  • Ask groups of 3 to prepare training materials (during session).
  • Display a video of an ineffective trainer while delivering training. After watching the video, ask participants to point out the errors he made.
  • List the qualities of a good trainer (participants do this individually, in pairs or in groups).

Concepts

  • Information dumping تزغيط
  • Eye contact طب عينى فى عينك

Videos

  • a child repeating something on and on (playing). this is learning by repetition. ("again".)
  • عرض جزء من حديث الشيخ الشعراوى

Assignments

  • Select some complex concept. Ask trainees to prepare then use one (or more) of the explanation methods to explain the concept to others.
  • Start a "better trainer" notebook. Seed it with results of this exercise: Write down negative aspects of trainings you have delivered or attended as well as positive aspects of them.

Total Immersion

  • Ask participants to deliver training about something they know. After they are done, elicit comments from the rest of the participants. Write their comments, both positive and negative, on a flip chart sheet. (This enable all participants to be sharply aware of good and bad practices in delivering training.) This activity would help build their confidence in delivering training.

Tidbits

  • Offer a color-coded illustration diagram showing the various parts of the training concepts and how they relate to one another to form a whole (how children learn, learning methods, training methods ...).
  • Provide handouts plus a printed reference guide (with checklists) for later reference as participants prepare and deliver training in the future.
  • Provide personality tests for participants to do in class.

TOT Session

Purpose

To equip trainers with additional skills enabling them to deliver training to teachers who would in turn be teaching to both children and adults.

Content

Divide participants into small groups. Each group would collaboratively work to complete the following activities. After all groups complete each exercise, a representative from each group comes out and displays their results (possibly on flip chart sheets) to the rest of the participants. A group can be from 4 to 5 members. The representative from each group acts as if she is a trainer delivering such training to teachers.
  • List methods by which children learn. Mention the strengths of each method. [Let each team member stand up, face the participants and explain one of the learning methods.]
    • Observation
    • Imitation
    • Playing
    • Role play
    • Repetition
    • Random action
    • Examination
    • Trial and error
    • Teaching
    • Asking questions

  • Design a workshop (an outline plus a list of exercises) to be delivered for teachers.
    • Design a training program for 12-year-olds to build their teamwork skills.
